Since her introduction in April of 1930, the Nancy Drew books have never been out of print. Over the years the books have had new cover art and, from 1959 to 1977, the first 34 stories have been revised. The revisions eliminated obsolete prose and, in some cases, racial stereotypes that would today be considered offensive. The revised tales and stories published since 1959 have a more or less uniform length to lower publishing costs. Revisions ranged from a light edit to a totally new story. Most Drew fans agree that the Original Text versions of the story are superior to their revised counterparts. Grosset & Dunlap is the publisher for the original series and revisions. In a 1979 court decision, Grosset & Dunlap lost the right to publish new stories in the series to Simon & Schuster. G&D did, however, retain the right to continue publishing the first 56 tales (known as the "canon") and continues to publish them to this day. From the Spring of 2005 until circa 2013, G&D had Simon & Schuster's permission to reprint the first 8 volumes of the Digests. These were published in the so-called "Flashlight" laminated picture cover binding using a modified version of the original Digest art. Applewood Books published facsimile editions of the early, unrevised editions of the Nancy Drew volumes 1 through 21 from 1991 to 2005. David Farah's Guide is the accepted guide book for identifying the various editions. For Sale
